Loan Helped Ellen Meet Rent Amid Expenses from Storm Damage

Sixty-something Ellen took her first Hebrew Free Loan a few years ago as she was a month away from being evicted from her home. The $2,500 loan enabled her to get up to date with what she owed to her landlord. She paid that off without any incident.

Recently, Ellen reapplied, this time for a $2,000 loan to help repay back rent stemming from the time her car was severly damaged in one of area's recent extreme storms. The unexpected car expenses resulted in her missing rent payments.

It was a choice between the threat of eviction again or getting her car out of the shop so she could get to work. At the time, she was obtaining her NJ substitute teachers certification and is currently employed as a proctor/administrator for exams.

We were able to give her a loan so that she did not have to choose and was able to stay in her apartment as well as have working transportation. Ellen continues to faithfully make all her repayments on time and hopes one day to be able to make a contribution to helping others in need of a Hebrew Free Loan.
