THE FOLLOWING UPDATE WAS ISSUED BY OUR PARENT ORGANIZATION, JEWISH FEDERATIONS OF NORTH AMERICA. TO HELP THE VICTIMS OF HURRICANE IRMA AND OTHERS, PLEASE GO TO JEWISHHEARTNJ.ORG/IRMA

On Monday, September 11, Jerry Silverman, President and CEO, Jewish Federations of North America, released the following statement regarding Hurricane Irma and the Federations' relief efforts in Florida.

Tragically this weekend another natural disaster hit the U.S.—impacting the entire state of Florida and now reaching into Georgia. The enormous storm caused widespread damage and flooding, and left more than 10 million people without power. Though most reports indicate that Floridians may have dodged a worst-case-scenario, residents and communities are just now beginning to return to assess the damage. We are still in the process of gathering information about specific needs. Several Federations have already opened a mailbox. This fund will raise money for the victims of Hurricane Irma, as well as victims of all 2017 hurricanes.

Regarding the Federations’ Hurricane Harvey Relief efforts, more than $10 million has been raised – which is one third of the estimated $30 million needed to rebuild. These funds, from federations, foundations and the Government of Israel, are already being put to work.
