Youth Advisor for YOSHE Juniors 6th-8th grade

Temple Shaari Emeth, a warm, engaging and supportive Reform congregation in Manalapan, NJ, is looking for a part- time advisor for its YOSHE (Youth of Shaari Emeth) Juniors programs (6th – 8th grade) from July 1 - June 30. The YOSHE Juniors program looks for ways to repair the world and uses the tools provided to help make a difference in our local community. The ideal candidate will bring excitement and enthusiasm for Jewish Youth programming, be able to engage, relate to and build relationships with young tweens and have the following additional qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree (or at least two years of college with additional experience)
- Strong Jewish background with a demonstrated commitment to Jewish life, which may include: Day School, camping, youth groups (preferably NFTY but not a requirement), or educational trips to Israel
-Experience working with tweens and teens in formal or informal settings
- Ability to serve as Jewish role model
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Familiarity with NFTY structure
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team of professionals and volunteers

Mentoring and Leadership Development
- Mentor youth support their growth towards strong Jewish identities
- Meet with and mentor the YOSHE Juniors group members at least once a month to help them a transition to YOSHE Seniors. This will require coordination with the YOSHE Seniors advisor.

Events and Event Planning
- Plan, organize, publicize and execute Tikkun Olam events and fun programs for YOSHE Juniors
- Create year-long youth calendar in consultation with the Temple staff and calendar
- Attend all YOSHE Juniors meetings/events – one event per month from September to May
- Chaperone all NFTY events for 6th – 8th graders
- Oversee registration and publicize programs in a timely manner

Additional Responsibilities
- Promote membership and increase participation of Temple Shaari Emeth youth in YOSHE Juniors activities—maintain close contact with members and their parents
- Take responsibility for membership recruitment and retention for YOSHE Juniors
- Manage and oversee the budget for YOSHE Juniors
- Be the primary contact for parents
- Use social media via Temple created pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram….), along with Shul Cloud (the Temple platform) and other tools to communicate with the kids and parents.
- Organize parent volunteers who will both support the youth groups and can help chaperone and execute programs
- Share love for Jewish life while serving as an appropriate role model
- Provide quarterly written reports to the Board of Trustees on activities taking place

Qualifications: Associate's Degree and 0-2 years of experience.
