Cantor Barbara Jean Ostfeld- Catbird
At age 22, Cantor Ostfeld cracked through the stained glass ceiling to become the FIRST woman invested as a cantor in 3,000 years of Jewish history. Barbara was invested in 1975 by Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion.
Cantor Ostfeld explains how a family crisis exposed old and enduring wounds, but she began to rescue herself by diligently going to therapy-and embarked on an imperfect but perpetual metamorphosis, becoming the well-coiffed heroine of her own story. Cantor Ostfeld shows us that we are all brave pioneers-at becoming our true selves.
Arrangements for Cantor Barbara Jean Ostfeld were through the Jewish Book Council that serves to promote the reading, writing, publication, distribution, and public awareness of books that reflect the rich variety of the Jewish experience.
