This program is being offered In-person at the JCC and via Zoom. Film Historians and the Curators of FilmShul, Irv Slifkin and Laurence Lerman, will explore why the now mostly shuttered summer resorts of New York’s Catskill Mountains provided the formative years for many prominent Jewish comedy stars for a number of decades up through the 1970s. Discover the origins of the region that came to be known as the Borscht Belt and how such youngsters as Woody Allen, Shelley Berman, Totie Fields, Milton Berle, Joan Rivers, Jerry Lewis, Betty Garrett, Danny Kaye and Myron Cohen left their audiences in stitches. We will also take a look at the movies inspired by the “Jewish Alps.”
Registration Fee: $8/JCC Member; $11/Guest. TO REGISTER: Go to jccmc.org and click the “register” box or call the JCC Front Desk at 732-494-3232 to register for In-Person or Zoom attendance. If you plan to attend via Zoom, once registration is completed, you will receive a Zoom invitation prior to the program. Registration closes at 12pm on November 9th. Registration fees are per person, not per household. Sorry, no refunds.
