She will be speaking about how “Women’s Voices Emerge: Stories from the Cairo Geniza.” Using slides and narrative, Ms. Richman will share fascinating insights into the lives of Jewish women of Egypt from approximately 1000—1250 of the Common Era. The talk will be presented on the Neve Shalom zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82472289017. There is no charge, but do check with Neve Now that week or call 732-548-2238 x 12 for the password.

Rachel Richman is a 3rd Year PhD student at Princeton University. She is studying the Cairo Geniza in order to explore the social history and material culture of the Medieval Islamic world. She is particularly interested in women and families, and how Geniza sources are uniquely able to illuminate their lives. Ms. Richman previously spent a year in Morocco, living with host families and learning the local dialect of Arabic in Fes, and then interning at the Casablanca Jewish Museum. She received a MA from Ohio State’s program in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures
