CARMA Works With Manalapan High School in Wake of Antisemitic Incident

Due to Federal and New Jersey State laws regarding minors and confidentiality, the Freehold Regional High School District cannot publicly state or release the outcome of any HIB or code of conduct investigations.  However, Dr. Stacy Gallin, director of the Center to Combat Antisemitism and Reinforce Multicultural Acceptance (CARMA), an initiative of the Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey, has been working closely with them and can personally attest to their sincere commitment to addressing the issue.  Since the initial incident, CARMA has supported and guided them through the process, and together we are working to ensure the best possible outcome for all involved.

Part of this process involves incorporating additional education for students, staff, and the community, not only in Manalapan, but in the entire Freehold Regional High School District. We have developed a comprehensive, long-term plan involving the following steps:

  • Professional Development sessions at each of the 6 schools in the district already scheduled for the year for teachers, supervisors, and administration led by the Center to Combat Antisemitism and Reinforce Multicultural Awareness (CARMA)
  • Collaboration with the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education to bring survivor testimony, professional development and curriculum to the district
  • Sessions with 2G/3G speakers for all 9th grade World History classes already scheduled for the year
  • Immersive Educational Program to be scheduled for the spring for all 11th grade US History II students that will be open to the community after school hours

Dr. Gallin will be working with the Freehold Regional High School District as their point person and CARMA will continue to collaborate with them and other community organizations on a regular basis to ensure that these programs enhance the existing curriculum while offering additional education to combat antisemitism and other forms of identity-based hate.
