Federation Plans 1st Anniversary, Annual Meeting, Chanukah

The Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey, which was formed January 1, 2015 from the merger of Federations from Monmouth and Greater Middlesex counties, respectively, will mark its first year together at the organization’s first annual meeting and Chanukah party Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015 at the Grand Marquis, 1550 Route 9, Old Bridge. All are invited to the celebration, which includes a menorah lighting, latkes, and light dinner. The couvert is $36 per person. Also slated for the program are presentations of impact stories resulting from the merger, installation of new officers, financial reporting, and recognition of individuals who made a large impact in the Jewish community during 2015.

“In the year since the merger took effect, we have achieved many milestones,” said Mitch Frumkin, president of the Federation. “On December 9, we will share these successes, set our sights on smart ways to meet ongoing needs, and shine a light on our vision for a community thriving together.”

Frumkin noted the success stories will prominently feature partner organizations, such as synagogues, social service agencies, and schools; they will include the following:

· Security for Jewish organizations
· Teen leadership development
· Jewish camp scholarships
· Israel travel grants & missions
· Enrichment for babies & toddlers
· Bereavement & hospital visitor support
· Safety nets for the vulnerable

The theme of the evening is “Sharing the Light,” which Keith Krivitzky, Chief Executive Officer, says is a nod both to the Federation’s work and to the celebration of Chanukah. In the spirit of sharing the light, he added, the Federation is inviting attendees and others throughout the community to participate in a growing national initiative called The Fifth Night, which encourages those who celebrate Chanukah to give a gift, instead of receiving a gift, on the fifth night of the holiday. Those who wish to participate are invited to drop off a new, unwrapped toy to brighten the holidays for a child in need.  Drop-offs may be brought to the Grand Marquis the night of the annual meeting or to any one of the following drop-off locations by December 15:

  • Congregation B'nai Tikvah, 1001 Finnegans Lane, North Brunswick
  • Highland Park Conservative Temple, Congregation Anshe Emeth, 201 S. 3rd Ave., Highland Park
  • Monmouth Reform Temple, 332 Hance Ave., Tinton Falls
  • Temple Beth Ahm, 550 Lloyd Rd., Aberdeen
  • Temple Beth Miriam, 180 Lincoln Ave, Elberon
  • The Jewish Federation, 230 Old Bridge Tpk., South River

Registration is required by Dec. 3. To register, go to jewishheartnj.org/light or call 732-588-1800.
