The OU's Jewish Learning Intitiative on Campus program is a College campus based initiative. An open and engaging pluralistic Orthodox rabbinic couple is placed on campus to ensure Jewish religious and cultural infrastructures and learning opportunities (as well as social programming) for Jewish students are available and in place to afford students the ability to be both religiously observant as well as engaged educationally. Both the husband and wife work together to give pastoral care, guidance, and counseling to students, as well as open their homes to students both during the week and especially on Shabbat to afford students a home away from home. At Rutgers, for instance, Rabbi Akiva and Nataly Weiss host an open, home-cooked, Shabbat community lunch in their home located just off campus which is attended by some 30-40 students each week! JLIC is found on 15 campuses throughout the country, yet is on two prominent NJ campuses, in both New Brunswick at Rutgers University as well as in Princeton at Princeton University. OU-JLIC rabbinic couples engage on average between 300-400 students per year with their educational, social, and community programming and initiatives. OU-JLIC works closely and in partnership with Hillel and is a proud partner of theirs in engaging Jewish students on campus. To learn more about JLIC, please see the website www.jliconline.org
