For millenia, Jews have grappled with the importance of gender and power, and how they interact with our obligations as Jews. Together with our Rabbinic Intern, Sienna Lotenberg, we will look at examples throughout the Jewish past where gender roles and ideologies were "challenging" - either to the authors of our sources or to us as readers (often both!), from the Torah to the Talmud to the twenty-first century. No background in Jewish text, Hebrew, history or gender studies required - only excitement to interrogate assumptions and learn.
This class meets at Anshe Emeth on Saturday mornings following our religious school calendar (when religious school is on break, class doesn't meet).
