Jewish Federations Applaud $400M for Nonprofit Security

Jewish Federations of North America applaud the inclusion of roughly $400 million in emergency funding to the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) in the National Security Supplemental package introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives this afternoon.

This package includes $26.4 billion in crucial support to Israel, including $4 billion in funding for essential defense systems like the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow-3.

Federations strongly support the bill’s passage and urge Congress to send it to the president for his signature expeditiously.

“Rarely does a single legislative package carry such historic significance for our country and for the Jewish community,” said Eric Fingerhut, President and CEO of the Jewish Federations of North America. “In these frightening times, the House has the opportunity to help Israel protect herself in an increasingly hostile region and take critical steps to secure the safety of people of all faiths as we gather for worship and fellowship in our communities here at home.”

Since October 7th, the Jewish community has experienced an unprecedented spike in antisemitism, with incidents rising 360%. Synagogues and other Jewish institutions have been the targets of antisemitic vandalism, graffiti, and violence, and must have the tools to protect themselves.

Over the same period, Israel has been working feverishly to release hostages held by Hamas and defang the organization that perpetrated a brutal array of murders, sexual violence, and unspeakable atrocities, while facing rocket fire from Lebanon. Iran's attacks against Israel this past weekend, the first by a sovereign nation since Saddam Hussein launched scud missiles at Israel in 1991, serve as a critical reminder of the threats the Jewish state faces.

At this moment of unrest and war, America’s support for our closest ally abroad and determination to keep the forces of hatred at bay domestically is critical.
