Send New Year's Wishes to Evan Gershkovich

It’s been over five months since Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich was wrongfully detained by Russian authorities and Jewish Federations of North America continue to advocate for Evan's release from a Russian prison.

As Jewish people around the world prepare to gather with loved ones this Rosh Hashana, we invite you to take a moment to think of Evan and write him a letter, sending him wishes for the Jewish New Year. The hopes, prayers and greetings received will be fused together by Jewish Federations to create and send one collective letter directly to Evan through his lawyers, so he can hear from you and those who stand with him around the world this New Year.

Additionally, we will deliver the letters to Evan's family with the hopes of providing comfort and something to look forward to giving Evan upon his return.

Already, letters are pouring in from around North America and beyond, and this campaign has received coverage in news outlets such as JTA, The Jerusalem Post, the Times of Israel, The Forward, and more. This is a true embodiment of the phrase “Kol Yisrael arevim zeh bazeh” - “All Jews are responsible for one another,” as well as a testament to the values of our Federation system to care for every Jewish person who is in trouble.

Let Evan and his family know we're thinking of them. The more people who participate, the louder our voice of love and support. We hope and pray Evan will soon taste the sweetness of freedom.

Letters can be submitted until 6PM ET on Friday, September 15, 2023.

SUBMIT LETTER HERE.
