Debbie's Story
In April of 2018, a vivacious and beautiful life was lost. Deborah Cantor Edelman (Debbie as most knew her) was a force to be reckoned with who lived life to its fullest. While in the hospital battling Leukemia, Debbie and her husband Larry “lit” battery operated Shabbat candles every Friday; so, it was only fitting during Chanukah, that they find a menorah that could be “lit” each night. Their felt menorah, of which they added a Velcro-backed candle each night, turned out to be quite the conversation starter. Doctors, nurses, and technicians would ask the meaning, so the Edelmans would share the story about the destruction of the ancient synagogue and how a small amount of oil lasted 8 days – the Chanukah miracle. As a tribute to Debbie, Larry started the Debbie Cantor Edelman Felt Menorah Fund to help spread the miracle of Chanukah - a message of hope - to other Jewish patients while they are experiencing a difficult time in their lives. The dollars you give will go towards the purchase of felt menorahs to give to patients spending Chanukah in hospitals across Middlesex and Monmouth counties.
